The all-electric, cordless, commercial ride-on mower, along with a 33-inch push mower with a side catch for grass clippings, came wrapped in green bows from the South Coast Air Quality Management District on Thursday. The Diamond Bar-based agency in charge of cutting smog in four Southern California counties is partnering with Mean Green Mowers and their distributor to kick-off a first-of-its-kind zero-emission lawn mower campaign for gardeners, cities, parks, golf courses and school districts.
“The average, gasoline-powered commercial lawn mower emits as much nitrogen oxides (a main component of smog) as 93 cars on an hour-by-hour basis,” Atwood explained. Doing the math, replacing just 10 gasoline-powered commercial mowers with the battery-operated kind is like eliminating 930 cars from the road.
